Quality Inspector – Receiving


Job Summary

Under moderate supervision, inspects work for defects in the receiving inspection process.  Completes 100% visual inspection and critical to function features.  This position is responsible for inspecting the quality of work produced by outside suppliers. Reports Directly to Quality Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Inspects product from outside suppliers (special processing) to make sure product is in specification per customer requirements.
  • Read and interpret blue prints and mechanical drawings
  • Read, interpret, and document on job work order router.
  • Enters results into Global shop, including rejections and returns as necessary. Disposition authorization may be allowed per Quality Manager discretion.
  • Ensure identification and traceability of product from receipt of materials through shipment to customer.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Requires 6 months to 2 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Must have working knowledge of company work procedures and practices
  • Must have working knowledge and use of precision testing equipment and tools
  • Must have working knowledge of calibration techniques and calibration software
  • Read and interpret blue prints and mechanical drawings
  • Have working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination
  • Must have ability to count to report defect quantities
  • Must have demonstrated ability to pay attention to details
  • Must be able to operate computer equipment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move around the manufacturing facilities and offices.
  • Must be able to handwrite or type record results of inspections.
  • Must be able to operate mechanical and electronic measuring devices
  • Visual acuity necessary to perform quality inspections.
  • Ability to play close attention to detail.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to occasionally manipulate product weighing ten pounds; must be able to occasionally lift up to thirty pounds.
  • Must be able to wear safety glasses when required.
  • Bending, twisting, kneeling, turning, pushing, and pulling are required.
  • Presence at the worksite during assigned shift is essential.

Working Conditions

Manufacturing environment with moderate noise level and concrete floors.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and some amount of dust from manufacturing process.   Some chemicals may be present in workstation.
